Good morning, Jesus.

Lord, the uncertainties looming over our society cause many to panic and fear the worse. However, for Christ-followers, we have Your unshakeable promises to stand upon. With the promise of You securely hold our future in Your hand, fear is surely to strike out. The enemy, that stinking devil, shouts his lies about doom and gloom, how everything will come crashing down around us. We know better. Our trust certainly is not in government. That is a no-win situation. Our trust is in You, Lord God.  A spirit of fear is not from You, since You give Your followers peace, power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). So, with confidence, we speak again in bold faith that Your peace, not fear, will consume us. Fear must bow in surrender before You, Lord. Your promises are trustworthy and remain steadfast, since “governments rise and fall, but Your Word remains forever!” (Matthew 24:35).

Trusting in You, Lord, and none other, so be it, Jesus. Amen.

Good morning, Jesus.

Lord, we continue our boldness of faith, to speak the authority You have been given in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). Your power is greater than cocaine, heroin, crack or any drug addiction. All must bow before You in surrender. By Your authority, we pray freedom from the destructive addictions for our children, spouses, loved ones—anyone trapped by this crusade of death and despair. We release the Holy Spirit to do His work in their lives, transforming the prisoner of addiction into the freedom fighter for righteousness as those whom You have set free (John 8:36). You came to change hearts and set the captive free (Luke 4:18). And the grace that rescued the drug addict is the same grace that will protect our children and loved ones from drug addictions. In Jesus authority!

And that same grace that shields us from destructive addictions and habits will also shield and sustain us from the turmoil in our nation’s capital. Our trust is in You, Lord God, and not in man. We pray not our will, but Your will is done, Lord.

In Jesus authority and power, so be it Lord. Amen.

Good morning, Jesus.

Lord, Your followers are coming alive to take on the wiles of the devil. We’ve had enough! In 2021, embolden Your followers to take a bolder stand in faith and invoke the authority in heaven and earth that the Father gave You (Matthew 28:18). So powerful is Your name [authority] that every human, creature, and entity will bow before You in surrender (Philippians 2:10). Therefore, Jesus, in faith, we summon Your authority. We speak in faith, declaring, “Covid-19, come under the authority of Jesus Christ and be no more. This plague will end and be completely eradicated from the earth. Your crusade of death and misery is broken and must bow before Christ!” In Your marvelous grace, You will not let this virus be in vain. Use this virus to cause people to call on You and find You to be what they have been looking for all their lives. As only You can do, Jesus, use what the devil meant for harm to turn the tables on him to expand and increase Your Kingdom. In Jesus authority, Amen and so be it Lord.

Rest in peace John Chesser. A life well lived, now welcomed to his heavenly home.

Good morning, Jesus

Lord, thousands awoke this morning, disappointed that one stroke after midnight everything did not instantly change for the better. Unfortunately, in 2021, depression, anger, anxiety, and unanswered questions still exists. And a majority will break their New Year’s Resolutions within a week. The woes of 2020 followed us into 2021. But what does instantly change is our destiny when we place our faith in You, Jesus. We’re transformed from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Heaven forever. And Your grace ensures no matter the events of 2021, we’re gonna be fine.

This uncertain year 2021 will not be fearful for Your followers, Lord. It will be awesome, seeing You work miracle after miracle, answer prayer after prayer, build faith amid madness in this world. You’re still our sovereign God and always will be. In Jesus name, so be it Lord God.

Lord, I need Your help on this one. Paul’s message to the Philippians believers easily identifies me today. The more I’m determined to live for You, the more the devil reminds me of past failures, especially those embarrassing spiritual lapses. “I have not taken hold of perfection yet,” Paul wrote. “But one thing I do. I forget those things behind and strain for that which lies ahead” (Philippians 3:12–13). Lord, remind me again I’m not alone in this battle. The struggle is common to all who follow You. Like the Philippians believers, help me forget my past mistakes and strive for what You have for me. Your grace keeps me going. Thank You, Lord, that all Your followers are accepted by Your grace and not by keeping religious rules and regulations. I admit I fall short of Your standards, and I am far from perfect, but I am forgiven, and that reassuring for me.

Believing You have great things ahead of me, Lord, Amen.

Good morning, Jesus.

Lord, this 2020 election reflects how fallen man is quick to put his trust in fickle, ever-changing people and unrealistic promises. Politicians promise peace and pie-in-the-sky if the voter will just trust them to change things. Most are prophets of fear. For Christ-followers, however, we need not fear nor be anxious. Our trust does not rest in who is or is not in the White House, or which ideology is prominent. Instead, our trust rests in You, Lord God. Psalm 102:26,27 assures us despite how nations rise and fall, and leaders come and go, You never change. You reign sovereignly forever on Your throne, imparting hope and peace to all who seek You. We can stand on Your promises when society reels with uncertainty, for You keep Your promises (Matthew 24:35).

Thank You, Lord, for being our anchor, our solid rock, our fortress in uncertain times. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020

Good morning, Jesus

Lord, how relevant for 2020 the words  that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow penned during the turbulent Civil War times regarding the Advent of the Christ-child who came to save us from our sins and bring peace on earth, goodwill toward men.

“And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

“Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.’”

On this Christmas Eve, may You be our peace, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Good afternoon, friends. Time for a little Hump-Day Humor to give you some Christmas gift ideas. Love to all and Merry Christmas.

“Modern Day Gifts the Magi Failed to Bring Jesus”

For years, your humble Aggie scribe and Mrs. Aggie helped our dear friends Carolyn and Tom plan the annual Sunday school class Christmas party in their upscale home. One year, as Carolyn planned the party, she noticed much of their dinnerware seemed to have mysteriously disappeared.

Poor ole Tom. Carolyn blamed him for misplacing cups and plates, losing silverware, crystal glasses and other fancy stuff rich folks use. Her anxiety sky-rocketed when she realized she didn’t have enough formal silverware to cover the number of expected guests. As party time approached, she feared being banished from the Sunday school class for mixing the Christofle with Trader Joe’s silverware. Her stress level was already dangerously high since her University of Oklahoma coffee mug came up missing. Being a die-hard OU fan, she knew drinking any liquid out of a non-OU container when the Sooners were playing, made receivers drop passes and the cheerleaders overalls to come unbuttoned.

“Don’t worry, Carolyn,” I said cheerfully. “No one will notice.” She gave me that “you gotta be a silverware dufus” look.

The silverware crisis never evolved. The silverware-ignorant crowd was too busy laughing and socializing to notice the horrors of the mixed utensils. The class gathered around the Christmas tree for the “white elephant” gift exchange. When the gift swapping and stealing finally subsided and everyone got what they wanted or didn’t want, one big bulky present, with Carolyn’s name on it, remained under the tree.

With great effort, I manhandled the present, and like one of the Magi at that first Christmas, dropped the precious treasure at her feet.

“What’s this?” She looked confused.

“Open it and see.”

She tore off the wrapping and opened the box. People still talk how she laughed so hard she snorted eggnog out her nose. Carolyn looked at me and immediately labeled me as the offspring of the canine species.

“What is it!” People surrounded the package, expecting gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

“It’s my stuff,” Carolyn said. “It’s my missing stuff. My silverware, my plates!” She snorted more eggnog. “Jimmy Eskew, I oughta hang you. You’re a thieving Aggie!”

“Let me explain, dear.” I said. “I knew you lost stuff during the year, so with Christmas love, I’m just replacing what you lost.”

During the year, when I visited Tom and Carolyn, I’d sneak out a plate, or pieces of silverware, or a wine goblet, or just anything I could hide. My Holy Grail of all items was her OU coffee mug. The picture of my Aggie mug sitting atop the OU mug should be hanging on the wall in the Dixie Chicken in Aggieland. I refused to say I stole these items, since my plan was noble. So, at the end of the year, I boxed up these items and gave them to Carolyn as a Christmas present. I just restored what she lost. But her stuff wasn’t the only thing she had restored.

The Bible tells us in the second chapter of Joel, how God restores that which the locust, i.e., the devil, stole from us. Many Christ-followers spent years neglecting their relationship with the Savior. Some were distracted by the world’s attractions and one day woke up to find themselves in the wilderness, away from their Savior. Others angrily walked away, vowing never to return. Whatever the case, the devil used these times to destroy families, ruin careers, create hellish addictions. His lies were so compelling, in our weakened spiritual state, we fell hook, line and sinker.

But God is faithful. In His mercy, He sends His Spirit to draw the wandering back to Him. He doesn’t condemn us, like Satan does. Instead, He loves us back into His fold just as we are, broken and bruised. Our heavenly Father holds us close to His heart and starts the work of restoration of our wounded soul and spirit. God restores what the devil took from us. I love how the Message Bible tells Jesus’ words in John 3:16–17: “This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in Him is acquitted . . .”

“Thank You Jesus, for coming to restore that which was lost and make all things new.”

Stay close to Jesus.

Jimmy

P.S. Other items in the box included her missing patio furniture and gas grill. But snuggled behind her missing 65-inch flat screen TV was Mandy, her missing schnauzer, who had holed up in her missing ficus tree. Her smile quickly turned into a scowl. If looks could kill, I was a dead man. “Listen, buster!” She wagged her finger in my face. “Nobody messes with my schnauzer!”

Good morning, Jesus.

Lord, We’re running around like crazy, trying to get everything ready for Christmas. Even with Amazon, the shopping madness gets worse for me every year. Will I remember everyone? I hope decorations inside and outside my house is in place and presentable for my guests. And I pray that crazy uncle behaves himself this year. After all this is over, I’m gonna sleep all weekend. Oh, Lord, give me grace to slow down. Help me keep the holiday season in perspective. In our busyness of the season, we tend to forget the true reason for celebrating Christmas. I need to hear the angel’s message not only at Christmas, but I need the message every day. The angel said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). May the glory of Your supernatural birth never be diminished but may the story of Christmas point the world to Your salvation. May I always remember how Your miraculous birth changed my life! Your salvation truly makes Christmas Merry.

Thank You, Lord, for Your good news that causes great joy for all the people! You came “to save Your people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). Amen.

Good Morning, Jesus

Lord, what inexpressible Love drove You leave the splendors of Heaven to come to this sinful, corrupt world? You saw how messed up the people You created were, wandering without hope, questioning their purpose in life but finding no answers. Many saw how the heavens displayed Your glory yet chose to believe themselves to be top dog in all the Earth (Psalm 19:1). The religious believed the foretold Messiah would conqueror their Roman oppressors. He would set up His kingdom on Earth with great pomp and ceremony amid great celebration. Who expected a baby born into poverty in a smelly stable in an obscure village in Judea? Oh, but Heaven celebrated big time! (Luke 2:13,14) The Christmas story reveals the Love of why You came, Jesus. “The Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost” (Luke 19:10).

Thank You Jesus for seeking us out to save us when we were so lost and without hope. Amen.
