During the summer of 2010 I became quite ill and had several weeks of recovery. It was within this time that I started to think on all the things I could be thankful for and began to write them out as emails to family and a few friends. In November, the Thanksgiving month, I sent out a daily “Thankful”. As I received the feedback on these articles it served as encouragement to continue on with what might have started out as just a few thoughts on paper. Word of mouth began to grow the list of email readers. Today there are about 400 readers so it seemed the best time to move “Thankful” to a blog.
Some might ask what have you to be thankful for and I would say that it starts with the smaller things in life such as a good wife of nearly 30 years, two wonderful daughters and their husbands, and 4 really terrific grandchildren. From there I can say that I am thankful to have a good job with a stable company and that I belong to a great body of believers at our church in Grapevine, TX. It seems that this being thankful thing is like potato chips in that one leads to another. With very little effort we can all see things to be thankful for everyday.
At the center of being thankful is my faith in God through Jesus Christ. I am reminded of I Thessalonians 5:18 that says “Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” (The Message)
Hey Jimmy, this is a great blog. I want to start one but am having a difficult time. I have an idea for the theme, then it gets “crumpled and thrown in the circular file.” Part of it is that I am fighting the “I don’t really want to do it.” syndrome.
You have a great blog here. I look forward to following you in the future. Maybe I will be inspired.
Blessings, Jim Stow
