Chatting with Jesus
Tuesday, May 9, 2023
Lord, I think I’ve got this ‘life’ thing pretty much figured out. I know what is going on in my world and what situations I face. You’ve seen I have chosen good people I hang out with. I love my wife and family, and we attend Your house most weekends when we are not doing anything. And we usually put out the ‘Jesus is the Reason for the Season’ sign every Christmas, and the ‘He is Risen’ cross at Easter. I can’t forget the healthy bank account and retirement plan in place when I am ready for the gold watch. Oh, yeah, Lord. I’ve got the perfect plan. All I need is for You to bless it.
Why do I feel like You’re shaking Your head, chuckling at my life’s plan?
“Oh, my child,” You whisper to my inner man, with a hint of sublte laughter. “I’m glad you somehow worked me into your plan. But if you knew the way things really are, you would see what you really need. Reread my Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 thru 7. This being consumed with planning every detail of your life is nothing I haven’t dealt with before:
“These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need,”—Matthew 6:32, 33 (NLT).
Plans are good, but what you really need is to make Me the center of your life. Let’s be honest. Your ‘needs’ are really ‘wants.’ I’m asking you to trust me for I know what you need. Seek me, and what I want for you. I think you will find my plan more rewarding—and I’ll let you keep the gold watch.
Amen, Jesus.
