Chatting with Jesus
Monday, October 7, 2024

Lord, that sure worked out well, didn’t it? I had it all planned. I would do X which should cause Y to do A, B, C. That didn’t happen. The outcome was not what we expected. Instead, X caused Y to do 1, 2, 3. We licked our wounds and started over. So, Lord, what happened?

Within nanoseconds, I heard your still, quiet voice speak to my inner being. “You didn’t ask me if that was part of my plan. You jumped out there on your hair-brain idea on your own, big boy.” Reading your Word revealed I wasn’t the first, nor will be the last, to embark into some venture without first consulting you. How can I point a finger at anyone who has ignored your plan, and then asked your blessings upon their endeavor? I could be a copycat of the impatient psalmist.

“I lie in the dust; revive me by your Word. I told you my plans, and you answered. Now teach me your decrees” (Psalm 119:25, 26 NLT).

Lord, you certainly answered my prayer. My plans were not your plans. And like you did for the psalmist, once again you picked me up, dusted me off, straightened my cap, and again, taught me your decrees. When will I learn they are always in my best interest when I follow them

How many heartaches, hurt feelings, broken relationships, misunderstandings could I have avoided if only I had followed your precepts? Help me order my life accordingly.

O Lord, that I might live what you have planned for me. Help me be your obedient follower. Copycatting you, Jesus, is a good thing. May those in my sphere of influence wish to copycat me as I copycat you, Jesus.

Amen.
